NOISE AQUARIUM premieres June 5th as a featured project at the WEB3D Art Gallery ON | OFF: 100101010

VICTORIA VESNA in collaboration with Dr. ALFRED VENDL and MARTINA FRÖSCHL from the Science Visualization Lab Angewandte, University of Applied Arts, Vienna have been developing this project for the past year and now it is showing at the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia. The work is projected on the cutting edge QT CUBE screen.

The ecological crisis is a human crisis. Oceans must not be considered as flat blue surfaces which serve as dropping holes where we can let vanish all our anthropogenic remains. There are vast amounts of organisms that live down there and some suffer pain from our waste and noise. Many are aware of mammals such as whales and dolphins and there have been discussions about the chemical and waste pollution. But – often ignored is the invisible and the inaudible environment to us that is deeply secluded. Therefore, in this installation, we have created 3D enlarged plankton to be like whales. In addition, we amplify the noise as participants move closer to the animations to simulate how these organisms might experience and perceive this anthropogenic noise. This is a highly interdisciplinary artist led effort with biologists, chemists, nano-toxicologists and an animator all working together towards a common goal – to raise consciousness.

Bridging Art, Science, and Visualisation
Fluid Visualisation and Sound Matters

On July 6, 2017 the symposium on "Fluid Visualisation and Sound Matters“ will bring at the Angewandte Innovation Lab (AIL) together artists, scientists, and experts working in the field of scientific visualisation and visual effects to develop a cross-disciplinary understanding of how art and science contribute to raising awareness of the current massive ecological crisis of marine ecologies and identify a suitable epistemological framing for this global challenge: Overfishing, pollution, acidification, and rising temperatures due to climate change are the main factors that have been putting tremendous stress on marine ecologies for decades.
NOISE AQUARIUM Visualisation will be introduced by Martina Fröschl and Alfred Vendl and Victoria Vesna, keynote speaker, will discuss Minding the Macro-Micro BioMe.
